New application development for medical use polymer

Making use of our own advanced professional technology in medical use polymers, BMG not only supplies various types of biomaterials but also is engaged in developing a broad range of medical devices including dental one.

Main technology and products in new products business field

A process technology of producing an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene molded article for artificial joints

A process technology of producing “an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene molded article for artificial joints”, whose properties can be improved by compressing produced free radicals by irradiation sterilization and which is superior in abrasion resistance, had been developed and patented. Then, the relevant patent was licensed to Biomet Inc. (USA), who is producing next-generation artificial joints, which were approved for marketing by FDA in 2005.

Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR) membranes for dental application

GTR-membranes (porous membranes) manufactured by BMG’s own method are supplied to a leading dental -device company. Use of this membrane enables regeneration and adhesion of lost periodontal supporting tissues caused by periodontal disease. Additionally, treatment with the biodegradable GTR-membranes will not need retrieval of the material from the body by follow-up surgeries, attracting attention as an innovative and patient-friendly treatment for periodontal disease. Also, BMG now is engaged in developing GBR-membranes (guided bone regeneration membranes for oral surgery).

Denture-base resin friendly to human body

” BMG had developed a thermoplastic denture-base resin by the name of “ACRYSHOT®”, mainly containing PMMA, which is processed by injection molding. This is completely new and patient-friendly denture-base resin with less residual monomers. In January 2004, this developed biomaterial was approved for production by Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, and also in March 2005 its manufacturing license was granted by Kyoto Prefecture. Our “ACRYSHOT®” sales were launched in September 2008.
